Applicants living in MD, DC, VA, PA, DE, or FL will only be considered.\n\nSummary:\n\nResponsible for reviewing and coding medical record documentation for lower complexity hospital outpatient services, primarily Clinic and Emergency Department accounts across JHHS entities. Assigns ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes, CPT/HCPCS procedure codes, and applicable modifiers based on medical record documentation to support accurate and compliant claim submission.\n\nReviews clinical documentation and abstracts required data elements in accordance with Federal, State, CMS, HSCRC, and organizational coding and billing guidelines. Utilizes electronic health records, computerized encoders, and revenue cycle systems to resolve routine coding edits and claim issues for assigned account types.\n\nWorks collaboratively with providers and departments to obtain clarification on documentation as needed and to resolve missing or incorrect charges within assigned areas. Organizes and prioritizes work to meet productivity and quality standards while developing proficiency in coding guidelines, regulatory requirements, and organizational workflows.\n\nThis is an entry-level coding position focused on developing coding knowledge, accuracy, and productivity. Maintains and expands knowledge of coding and sequencing guidelines and participates in quality assurance and educational activities to support ongoing professional development. Works under general supervision and guidance and collaborates as a member of the HIM and Coding team\n\nEducation:\n\nBachelor's Degree in health information management, medical coding, or a related field (One year of relevant education may be substituted for one year of required work experience or one year of relevant professional-level work experience may be substituted for one year of required education).\n\nRequired Licensure:\n\n• Active approved coding credential from AAPC or AHIMA upon hire.\n\n• Successful completion of Outpatient Coding Specialist I diagnosis and CPT coding pre-employment assessment upon hire. (Required)\n\nEssential Functions:\n\n• Reviews medical records to assign accurate codes for physician services.\n\n• Ensures compliance with all coding guidelines, regulations, and hospital policies.\n\n• Maintains up-to-date knowledge of coding standards, payer requirements, and regulatory changes.\n\n• Prepares and submits accurate and timely coding reports to the billing department.\n\n• Audits coded data to ensure accuracy and completeness.\n\nWork Experience:\n\n• Coding experience preferred.\n\nSalary Range: Minimum /hour - Maximum /hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.
