About these notes

These notes list changes to the API and its documentation, newest first. Changes made before October 7, 2026 are not listed. Pricing changes are on the site changelog.

October 14, 2026: Documentation update

October 13, 2026: Fields, Elasticsearch-style search and exports

  • fields picks which job properties come back on GET /v1/jobs, POST /v1/jobs/search, GET /v1/jobs/{jobId} and the company jobs list. With fields=job_id alone, limit goes up to 1,000.
  • country and employment_type accept up to 10 values.
  • New POST /v1/jobs/search/es_dsl takes an Elasticsearch-style query.
  • New POST /v1/jobs/exports creates an export of up to 100,000 jobs. Poll it with GET /v1/jobs/exports/{exportId}, list your last 20 with GET /v1/jobs/exports, and download gzip files.

October 12, 2026: Date-only filters

  • The fetch and application date filters (last_fetch_since, last_fetch_until, application_check_since) accept a plain date such as 2026-10-12 as well as a full timestamp.

October 9, 2026: Name change and query timeout

  • The API, MCP and sign-in pages were renamed from JobCensus to Headcount Labs. Support mail comes from support@headcountlabs.com.
  • A query that runs longer than 10 seconds now returns 504 query_timeout and uses no records.

October 8, 2026: More location and company data

  • Each job location can carry county_fips and msa (metropolitan or micropolitan area), and a five-digit zip when the posting states one.
  • Companies carry region, address_source, identifiers (SEC CIK, EIN, UEI, ticker) and industries (NAICS, SIC).
  • A job that is gone returns 410 job_withdrawn with no_longer_listed_at in the body.
  • Overage billing gained an optional monthly dollar limit on PUT /v1/account/overage.
  • The docs now say that title matches one exact phrase while title_advanced matches words in any order.

October 7, 2026: Key prefix and documented filters

  • New keys start with jc_live_. Keys issued before this date start with ar_live_ and keep working.
  • The OpenAPI reference documents the 26 job filters the API already accepted, including has_description, has_location, has_pay, has_posting_url, has_application_url, pay_min, pay_max, last_fetch_since, application_check, source_class and exclude_source.
  • New PUT /v1/account/overage turns overage billing on or off.
